School History

Sitaram Prakash Higher Secondary School was founded by Late Shri. R. M. KEWALRAMANI in 1938 at KARACHI. Initially, it started as a Primary school for girls. Over the years it grew to be a High School with the first batch of students being sent up for the Matriculation Examination in March 1947.

Consequent to the partition of our country Shri R. M. KEWALRAMANI along with some of his staff shifted to Mumbai. Realizing the necessity for a school for displaced migrants, especially, SINDHIS, he restarted SITARAM PRAKASH HIGH SCHOOL on 10th November 1947. As the rent collected by R.M.H.S. was considerable, the founder approached the Mumbai Municipal Corporation for purchase of the present plot at WADALA admeasuring 8120 sq. yds. for the school and residential quarters for the staff on monthly tenancy. By 1949 the school ground floor and staff quarters were constructed.

Due to the wholehearted missionary zeal and hard work of the Hon. Director Shri R. M. KEWALRAMANI and the fact that the school had earned a name in Mumbai, the BMC converted the monthly tenancy to 999 years lease in November 1957.

Being a selfless worker with a clear vision, the Founder established SITARAM EDUCATION TRUST in 1958. His line of thought and action was :- “To action alone thou hast a right, Its fruit must remain out of thy sight, Let not the fruit be the impulse of idle action. Nor be thou attached to a life of idle action”

The Trust is registered with the HONOURABLE CHARITY COMMISSIONER, GREATER MUMBAI. The sole aim and function of the Trust is to propagate education amongst the younger generation without reference to caste, creed or community.
